Vintage Car of the Month

Owner: Brian, Caledon, Ontario

I have owned many Street Rods and Classic Cars since the 1978 and always wanted a 1955 Chev. After many years of searching I found a custom 1955 Chev that had been sitting in a garage for 10 years.  This 55 Chev has an interesting history.

The car started it life in Saskatchewan. A grandfather gave the car to his grandson to drive to London Ontario to attend university. When he arrived in London he no longer wanted the car and it sat beside a barn for a few years. The car was purchased and in the early 1990’s restored, new interior, 350 small block, disk brakes and a bright red paint job. The owners friend worked for CFPL Radio 98am in London and convinced him to let the radio station buy the car. Sponsored by CFPL Radio 98am and Merla-Mae Ice Cream Limited the car was outfitted with a $15,000 sound system. The car was called “Classic Chev Sound Machine”. Ballots to win this classic Chev created the Chev toured the London area all summer. On September 22, 1995 the winner was announced. Russ was excited about his win but had little time to drive it as he ran a boating business. The car then sat in the garage until Nov 2006 when I purchased it.

I had a minor accident in 2010 will waiting to fill the gas tank someone ran into the passengers’ door. Of course there was no guarantee the that paint could be matched and the body off restoration began. Angelo, Debbie and the team at A & D Performance did a fantastic job of bring my concept for the car to reality. Every panel was removed, stripped and installed better than they came from the factory. New rack and pinion front end, Flaming River steering column, vintage air, custom console with integrated shifter, wiring harness, billeted pulley system, chrome alternator, power steering pump etc. New crate 350 engine and rebuilt 350 tranny. A flawless two tone paint job with House of Colours tangelo pearl orange and snow white pearl. The car runs on a set of custom made 17 inch USMAG wheels and low profile Bridgestone tires.

Then came the best part of the car the custom leather interior designed and installed by Peter Giampa of Tack Auto Upholstery. Krist Kustom pattern / pleated front bucket seats with custom made matching rear seats designed to look like buckets. Trim, door panels, kick panels and moulded arm rests designed to flow from the front to the rear of the car. Matching pleated head liner and carpet. The carpet and leather panels extend right through the trunk as well.

The car was completed in Aug 2013.

A joy to drive and very proud to show.
