Sometimes the best car stories are the ones you never see coming.
For over a decade, the previous owner of my 1967 Buick Electra 225 Custom Convertible would stop by the office every year to renew the insurance on the car. Every year, without fail, he would grumble a little about paying insurance on a car he didn’t drive enough. My response was always the same: “Well, if you ever decide you don’t want it anymore, I’ll take it!”
It started as a joke—but last summer, that joke became reality.
He came into the office and told me he felt it was time for someone else to enjoy the car, and he wanted me to be its next caretaker. Needless to say, I didn’t hesitate. After more than ten years of joking about buying it, I became the proud owner of this incredible Buick.
From everything I’ve been able to learn, I’m only the fourth owner of the car, and the previous owner lovingly cared for it since 1986. That history is one of the things I appreciate most. Along with the car came its original Owner’s Manual, Buick Accessory Pamphlet, and Warranty Booklet, plus an incredible collection of service records, receipts, and car show dash plaques dating back to 1981. It’s like owning a rolling piece of automotive history.
This Buick is also a rare sight. Only 6,941 Buick Electra 225 Custom Convertibles were produced for the 1967 model year, making it a car you don’t often see at local cruise nights or car shows. I love that it stands out from the crowd while still representing the style and luxury Buick was known for in the late 1960s.
The car remains completely stock, and I don’t have any plans for major modifications. My goal is simply to preserve it, maintain it, and enjoy it the way it was built. While it’s in remarkable condition, it’s not a trailer queen—and that’s exactly how I like it. With just over 102,000 original miles, this Buick was built to be driven, and I intend to keep making memories behind the wheel. One of the best parts of owning the car has been sharing it with my family. We’ve spent countless hours cruising the back roads together, and it’s already attended several local events, including the Tavistock Community Show & Shine, Tavistock Historic Wheels Fall Fair Car Show, Kirkton Rumble, and Rich’s Round Up.
For me, this Buick is much more than a classic car. It’s a reminder that sometimes patience pays off, great friendships lead to incredible opportunities, and every classic deserves an owner who will continue its story. I’m incredibly grateful to have been entrusted with its next chapter, and I look forward to many more miles, memories, and car shows in the years ahead.
